There are several ways that you can use to prolong dying or gain additional life points. These include jewelry, prayers, and a few potions.
Jewelry
These jewelries can teleport you away when your life points drop to a certain point, speed up the recovery time, and even restore some of your life points.
Ring of Life: If you are wearing this and your life points drop below 10%, it will teleport you to your spawn point. Note that it is still possible to die while wearing this, if you reach 0 life points without dropping below 10% first. It will turn into dust once the charge has been used up.
Phoenix Necklace: When the wearer's life points drop below 20% of their max constitution, their life points will be restored to 30% of their max. It has a priority over the Ring of Life and will turn into dust after one use.
Bracelet of Inoculation: Protects against disease up to 250 damage.
Bracelet of Regeneration: Doubles your life points recovery rate and has no limit.
Saradomin's Brew: Temporarily increases your max life points by 150. This bonus will decrease by one each minute.
Guthix's Rest Tea: Temporarily boosts your life points by 50 if you have full health.
Prayers
Prayer can be a useful ally in combat as it can restore your life points faster, protect you from certain attacks, and heal you partially.
Rapid Heal: Doubles the restore rate for life points. This requires level 22 Prayer.
Protect From Magic: This will protect you from magical attacks. It requires level 37 Prayer.
Protect From Missiles: This will protect you from ranged attacks. It requires level 40 Prayer.
Protect From Melee: This will protect you from close melee attacks. It requires level 43 Prayer.
Redemption: If your life points drop below 10%, you'll be healed 25% of your maximum Prayer. Also, this drains all of your Prayer Points when used. This requires level 49 Prayer. Please note that it is still possible to die while wearing this, if you reach 0 life points before dropping below 10% of your total constitution.
Potions
These potions can be used to increase your maximum life points and cure poison and disease.
Guthix's Rest: Cures some poison, restores Run Energy & boosts health by 50 if you have full health. Requires level 18 Herblore and you must have talked to Sanfew during the One Small Favour quest to be able to make this.
Saradomin's Brew: Increases your Defense by 20% and Constitution by 15%, but lowers your Strength, Magic, and Ranged by 10%.
Sanfew Serum: When drunk, will give the effects of a Super Restore and an Anti-poison potion and will also cure disease. Can be used as a weapon against Nail Beasts.
Relicym's Balm: Cures disease and can be used as a weapon against the orange Broodo Victims (level-60).
Spells
The following spells are Lunar Spells and require the Lunar Magicks spellbook along with completion of the Lunar Diplomacy quest.
Cure Other: Cures another player of poison. Requires level 68 Magic.
Cure Me: Cures yourself of poison. Requires level 71 Magic.
Cure Group: Cures a group of people of poison. Requires level 74 Magic.
Heal Other: Lets you heal another player. Requires level 92 Magic.
Heal Group: Lets you heal a group of people. Requires level 95 Magic.
Dream Spell: Triples your recovery rate. Must be cast when not in combat. If you are disturbed when casting, you will stop dreaming and will have to recast the spell. Requires level 79 Magic.

When you die, you lose all of your items, except for your three most valuable ones. The item's value is determined by both the Grand Exchange and the General Store/Low Alchemy price: the higher of the two values is the one that the item's value is based on. You may use the Protect Items prayer if you have level 25 Prayer. This will let you keep an extra if you die, but you must activate it before your life points reach 0 for it to have an effect. If you become 'skulled', you will lose every item you have.

Becoming 'skulled' can only happen in two situations: entering the Abyss, or while playing the mini-game Bounty Hunter. You may prevent yourself from becoming 'skulled' by wearing an Abyssal Bracelet (enchanted diamond bracelet) when entering the Abyss. If you choose to play Bounty Hunter and become skulled, nothing can remove it except death or leaving the Bounty Hunter arena. You may use the 'Protect Item' prayer to keep your most valuable item if you are skulled. There are some times in Bounty Hunter that this prayer will not work though.

Blue Splats

These hit splats are the only ones you want to appear on your character. It simply means that your opponent has not dealt any damage to you.
Red Splats

The number that appears on this hit splat refers to the number of life points lost during the last strike.
Green Splats

Green hit splats stand for any poison damage. Drink an anti-poison potion or use the 'Cure Me' spell to cure yourself.
Gold Splats

The last hit splat, gold, stands for disease. This splat doesn't affect your life points at all, but will effect a random stat. Drink a Relicym's Balm to cure yourself.
