Runescape Skill - Constitution Guide

The Basics
Constitution iconConstitution is the only skill in RuneScape that doesn't let you do or make something new when you reach a certain level. Levels are what determines your life points. For instance, if your Constitution level is 15, that means you have 150 health or "life points". Each constitution level counts for 10 life points and counts as 0.25 levels in you combat level.

Raising Your Constitution Level
Constitution iconThe most effective way of raising Constitution is through combat. Every time you successfully attack your opponent, your Constitution increase in experience equal to how much damage you've caused plus a little more. For instance, if someone hit a 100 on some monster, their Constitution would get 13.3 xp (10 x 1.33). You may use Melee, Range, or Magic to raise Constitution experience. There are also a few other ways of getting xp, but they are not as effective. They will be broken down between freeplay and members below.
Note: Remember that all freeplay options are also available to members.
Freeplay

Preventing Death
There are several ways that you can use to prolong dying or gain additional life points. These include jewelry, prayers, and a few potions.
Jewelry
These jewelries can teleport you away when your life points drop to a certain point, speed up the recovery time, and even restore some of your life points.
  • Ring of lifeRing of Life: If you are wearing this and your life points drop below 10%, it will teleport you to your spawn point. Note that it is still possible to die while wearing this, if you reach 0 life points without dropping below 10% first. It will turn into dust once the charge has been used up.
  • Phoenix necklacePhoenix Necklace: When the wearer's life points drop below 20% of their max constitution, their life points will be restored to 30% of their max. It has a priority over the Ring of Life and will turn into dust after one use.
  • Bracelet of innoculationBracelet of Inoculation: Protects against disease up to 250 damage.
  • Bracelet of regenerationBracelet of Regeneration: Doubles your life points recovery rate and has no limit.

Prayers

  • Rapid healRapid Heal: Doubles the restore rate for life points. This requires level 22 Prayer.

  • Protect from meleeProtect From Melee: This will protect you from close melee attacks. It requires level 43 Prayer.
  • RedemptionRedemption: If your life points drop below 10%, you'll be healed 25% of your maximum Prayer. Also, this drains all of your Prayer Points when used. This requires level 49 Prayer. Please note that it is still possible to die while wearing this, if you reach 0 life points before dropping below 10% of your total constitution.

Dying
Hitpoints iconDying in RuneScape can happen to anyone. It could happen to a new player, or an experienced player. It means possibly losing items and you have to respawn. Dying happens when your life points reach 0. Your character throws their hands up and falls to the ground and then you respawn at your respawn point. The default respawn point for both free-to-play and members is Lumbridge Castle, but members have the option of changing their respawn point to either Falador or Camelot once they have completed certain quests. Complete Recruitment Drive to change your respawn point to Falador or complete the Knight Waves Training Ground mini-game after the King's Ransom quest to change your respawn point to Camelot.
When you die, you lose all of your items, except for your three most valuable ones. The item's value is determined by both the Grand Exchange and the General Store/Low Alchemy price: the higher of the two values is the one that the item's value is based on. You may use the Protect Items prayer if you have level 25 Prayer. This will let you keep an extra if you die, but you must activate it before your life points reach 0 for it to have an effect. If you become 'skulled', you will lose every item you have.
Skulled!
Becoming 'skulled' can only happen in two situations: entering the Abyss, or while playing the mini-game Bounty Hunter. You may prevent yourself from becoming 'skulled' by wearing an Abyssal Bracelet (enchanted diamond bracelet) when entering the Abyss. If you choose to play Bounty Hunter and become skulled, nothing can remove it except death or leaving the Bounty Hunter arena. You may use the 'Protect Item' prayer to keep your most valuable item if you are skulled. There are some times in Bounty Hunter that this prayer will not work though.

Hit Splats
Hitpoints iconCalled 'hit splats' in the skill menu, splats are the different colored splotches that appear on your character during and after combat. There are four different kinds, two of which are members only.
Blue SplatsBlue splat - no damage dealt
These hit splats are the only ones you want to appear on your character. It simply means that your opponent has not dealt any damage to you.
Red SplatsRed splat - damage taken
The number that appears on this hit splat refers to the number of life points lost during the last strike.
Green SplatsGreen splat - poison
Green hit splats stand for any poison damage. Drink an anti-poison potion or use the 'Cure Me' spell to cure yourself.
Gold SplatsGold splat - disease
The last hit splat, gold, stands for disease. This splat doesn't affect your life points at all, but will effect a random stat. Drink a Relicym's Balm to cure yourself.

You can buy it from Surgeon General Tafini, found in the Duel Arena hospital north of the Duel Arena, for 99,000gp. The emote description for the cape is as follows: "Your character is struck by an arrow as your clothes disappear. You are then struck by another arrow as your skin disappears, and then struck with a third arrow as your muscles disappear and your bones show. Your character then returns to normal, pulls all three arrows out of his body, and throws them away."
